I'm thinking this is the most Michigan way to pop the question and get engaged.

If you're just doing a tour to the top of the Mackinac Bridge? That's cool. But getting engaged on the Mackinac Bridge? That's something you'll get some mileage from when you tell the story for generations. Well played, Cord Wilson.

Here's the backstory: This all happened because Cord's girlfriend, Emily Misner won a social media contest. (If I call her "fiance", then I'd have to do a spoiler alert) The two of them were at the bridge for a tower tour Misner won in the #MightyMacWalk17 social media photo contest.

"Misner said that after she made her way up the final ladder and onto the tower top, Wilson called her name to get her attention and then got down on one knee to pop the question. I think my first words were, 'Are you serious?'" Misner recalled. "I cannot even begin to describe how amazing today was! We've definitely joked about 'if we ever get married' here and there, but I had absolutely no idea the proposal was going to happen." - Michigan Dept. of Transporation release

Even though Wilson has know about the tour for several months, he'd only been planning this for about a month. "I thought, that is the perfect opportunity," he said. "She had not a clue. That was my goal, to keep it a secret."

Okay, Spoiler Alert:

She said yes. Fiancees Cord Wilson and Emily Misner of St. Ignace.

Here's a fun sidebar to this story. MDOT Photographer Sara Martin tagged along to take pictures of the proposal. Eleven years ago: Martin's husband, Nick, proposed to her during a similar tour in July 2007.
