Urban BBQ first came to downtown Kalamazoo in 2017. Although that restaurant closed, relocation and expansion followed. Now, they're coming back to their roots.

When the specialty is "Urban BBQ," the establishment needs a downtown home. Kelvin & Co. started serving slow-roasted, flavorful pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, ribs and sausage with handcrafted side dishes complimented by eight sauces with varying levels of smoke, sweet and heat in 2017. Their initial location was on Michigan Ave., but the owners shuttered that restaurant and moved to Portage after a major downtown construction project impacted traffic. That location lasted about a year and a half before moving to a new building on West Main. There was talk of a third location in 2018, and it is finally happening.

They shared the good news on their Facebook page at the end of March:

We want to celebrate our 4 year anniversary by announcing that we will be returning to downtown Kalamazoo early spring! We have missed you downtown!
The new space will be at 312 S Kalamazoo Mall, offering "true Texas style bbq with a limited menu, and once we are out we are out!" No projected opening date was offered , but it looks like by this Summer you will be able to grab some bbq to go with that beer while you are enjoying the social drinking district downtown Kalamazoo.

Changes are happening at the West Main Kelvin & Co. as they have announced they will be closing Mondays and Tuesdays. Like many other businesses, finding reliable, dependable employees is difficult right now, and the family-owned business cannot be strictly business seven days a week. Regular hours are 11 am-8 pm Wednesday through Sunday.
