Scenes like the hostage situation in Sydney are all too commonplace in the U.S.  We've become numb to stories of gunmen entering peaceful locals and wreaking havoc. Australians aren't used to such violence, so when a gunmen took 17 people hostage in a cafe in Martin Place, and displayed an Islamic flag in the window, some feared that Islamophobia would spread.
