Michigan House Passes Bill Requiring Alcohol Funds For Abuse Prevention
House Bill 5085 was passed by the Michigan House of Representatives 104-3 on Tuesday, and it would require that if the Michigan Liquor Control Commission collected more money in a fiscal year than they did in the previous year, 50 percent of that excess money would need to be allotted to Michigan's general fund, for disbursement to community mental health agencies to fight substance use disorders.
New Truck Stolen In Oshtemo Township Armed Robbery
Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Seville Apartments near South Drake Rd. and W. KL Ave. in Oshtemo Township, after a 35-year-old Battle Creek man said he was robbed. Around 10pm Monday, the victim had been getting into his car when two teens approached the vehicle armed with a handgun, demanding the man’s property.

Man Dies In Armed Standoff With Kalamazoo Police Wednesday
Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Deputies originally went to the Pavilion Estates Mobile Home Park in Pavilion Township around noon Wednesday to talk with a couple parked in a vehicle, after the owner of a trailer said the two had been squatting on his property. When deputies approached, they say the man got out of the car and pulled out a gun, firing one shot into the air.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the residence in the 900 block of North Burdick St. around 4am Saturday, and arrived to find the 26-year-old with gunshot wounds; he was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead.

The Michigan State Police Marshall Post says they were called around 4:20pm Wednesday to eastbound I-94 near Capital Avenue, on reports of an unresponsive woman. When troopers arrived they found the woman in a ditch, and she was pronounced dead.
