House of the Devil is by far the best 80s throwback horror film I've ever seen.  Back in the 80s, a lot of filmmakers were making 1950s horror/sci-fi throwbacks.  Those were good, but they still looked like a movie filmed in the 80s that takes place in the 50s.  House of the Devil feels and looks like it was filmed in the 80s.

Directed by Ti West, House of the Devil tells the story of a girl who picks up a job babysitting an elderly man's mother.  Well, this man is actually a satanist, and as the film progresses, we are taken deeper and deeper into the lungs of hell!  It starts off a little slow, but by no means is House of the Devil boring.  I'll admit, it's been a few years since I saw this, but I've been looking for an excuse to re-watch it, and I have a feeling I'll be revisiting the House this weekend.

Again, House of the Devil is a little bit of a slow burn, but trust me, the pay off is worth it.  The film is currently streaming on Netflix, and if you want to watch a great, scary movie this season, then give House of the Devil a shot.  If you enjoy this, check out The Innkeepers.  This is the film Ti West directed after House of the Devil.  Not as good, but still a decent haunted house film.
