This morning I gave my opinion as to why less people vote than we expect.  Don't we expect everyone who is eligible to vote?  Maybe.  Other than the obvious reasons of ignorance and apathy, I believe 2 other factors contribute to a lack of turnout.  These aren't the only other reasons but are the 2 I'd like to focus on.

First, voting is always on a Tuesday when we work and go to school.  I would suggest a national holiday or, perhaps a Saturday or Sunday.

Second, and I believe most important at this time in history, the negative ad campaigns are literally making us negative toward the process.  We are not able to determine why one candidate may be better qualified to serve us than another; except to say that one candidate is the lesser of 2 evils.

I don't have the answers.  I wish I did.  But I think that the people's will to vote will not improve until the negative campaigning changes to differentiating where candidates stand on the issues rather than why they a "bad" for Michigan or the country.

I, for one, will try and wade through the mud and vote for who I think best represents what is good for me and my family and I encourage you to do the same.
