People like lists, but I bet they sure don't like knowing that their West Michigan city is on a list for the top 40 Michigan cities for STD's.

According to WZZM, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on cases of syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia have all increased in across the entire United States.

There were 2.5 million Sexually Transmitted Disease cases that were reported alone in 2018 across the country.

The director of the CDC's National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention, Jonathan Mermin said, "STD's can come at a high cost for babies and other vulnerable populations. Curbing STD's will improve the overall health of the nation and prevent infertility, HIV and infant deaths."

Here is a list of possible factors that help increase the overall STD cases:

  • Drug use, poverty, stigma, and unstable housing, which can reduce access to STD prevention and care
  • Cuts made to STD programs
  • Lack of using condoms, young people and gay and bisexual men

A top 100 list of STD rates by city was put together in January by a wellness testing company and in regards to Michigan, Detroit came in at 29th, Kalamazoo came in at 35, Grand Rapids was number 39, while Flint came in at number 66 and Lansing at number 82.

Your best bet...wrap that rascal!
