Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra has the perfect summer evening planned with a lawn concert from saxophonist Branford Marsalis at Gilmore Car Museum.

Detroit has long been known as the automotive capital of the world. Berry Gordy contracted the Motor Town moniker for his Motown record label. Now, Gilmore Car Museum is becoming known as a home to music as well as cars with its summer concert series.

KISS tribute band Strutter arrived to the stage in a vintage automobile and played like they were in Detroit rock city on June 5. A Van Halen tribute band will play the David Lee Roth-era classics on June 25, and then the Spazmatics will bring all the radical '80s tuneage to the summer stage on July 10. The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra is partnering with Gilmore Car Museum for three shows, with Beethoven's "Ode To Joy" August 14, Movie Music on July 31, and very special guest Branford Marsalis on June 19.

Saxophonist Branford Marsalis is a three-time Grammy winner, band leader, featured classical soloist, and a film and Broadway composer. He has earned a citation by the National Endowment for the Arts as a Jazz Master and an avatar of contemporary artistic excellence. Marsalis may be most recognized outside of jazz circles as bandleader on The Tonight Show from 1992-95 during Jay Leno's tenure as host.
