The ultimate Valentine's ice-breaker will, sadly, be absent from store shelves this holiday. The famous confection that literally put words in your mouth was created by the New England Confection Company (later NECCO), was bought out by the Spangler Candy Company in September of 2018. Because the rights were acquired relatively close to Valentine's Day, Spangler was not able to produce a fresh batch of hearts in time for 2019.

So, Kalamazoo, without the help of these tiny, chalky hearts to help you ask your crush to "Be Mine" or "Call Me," what can you do?

The Spangler Candy Company promises to have the classic Valentine's Candy back on the shelves in 2020, but until then, you're on your own. Good luck, Cupid.
