Historic Michigan Music Venue Could Be Getting Restored

Ask anyone over the age of 60 what one of the greatest venues of all time was in the state of Michigan and almost every time you'll get the same answer: The Grande Ballroom. In its hay day, the Grande Ballroom in Detroit was bringing in some of the most iconic bands of the "Woodstock" era. Bands like Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, Jeff Beck, The Grateful Dead, Howlin' Wolf, Cream, The Who, MC5, and The Stooges.

Freep reports that for more than a decade, supporters have petitioned for the Grande Ballroom to make the federal registry. It now seems it will happen as long as approval is given from historical advisory agencies in Detroit and Lansing. Supporters will present  their case with each of the agencies on Thursday and Friday, and are hoping for approval quickly, which will then be sent to D.C. to be certified.

If approved, the National Park Service will oversee the restoration of the newly registered historical site.
