While I agree that new parents or parent that can't take care of a baby shouldn't take care of a baby, I'm still a little taken-A-back by the option to just drop it off.  I do remember, years ago, seeing various hospitals allowing for an individual to place a newborn baby in the care of the hospital rather than allowing harm by nature or otherwise but I wasn't aware that non medical facilities were also allowed.

However, just across the border in Indiana, this practice is currently taking place.  In an article on abc12.com, a fire station just across the Michigan border near Angola, IN not only accepts newborns, it has what's called a Safe Haven Baby Box.  The boxes allow someone to drop off a baby without fear of criminal prosecution. The box has an alarm that immediately alerts a local hospital or emergency responders.  Get more of the story by clicking HERE.
