While few retailers are requiring customers to wear masks, more and more are strongly encouraging patrons protect themselves against the latest COVID surge.

Nobody seems to like it, but the masks are back. Like me, you may be seeing them more and more around town. Are they required- do I have to wear one? While we have been assured there will be no state mandate in Michigan, more businesses have been required employees to mask up and are asking shoppers as well. Direct from thier corporate websites, here are the latest directives for some of Southwest Michigan's largest businesses and where they stand right now. As with seemingly everything else related to COVID, this information is subject to change.

Costco: Costco locations will follow the face mask regulations of the applicable state and local jurisdictions. In communities where COVID-19 transmission is high or substantial, per current CDC guidance, Costco strongly recommends that all members and guests wear face masks inside our locations.

Crossroads Mall:  We are following all CDC recommended steps for virus prevention as well as directives of state and local authorities. As the situation evolves, we will continue to monitor and take any necessary precautions as recommended.

CVS: Face coverings required for employees and customers who are not fully vaccinated.

FireKeepers Casino: Occupancy restrictions and the smoking ban are still in effect, but face masks are not required for guests at this time.

Gun Lake Casino: For the health, and safety of our Guests, Team Members, and our local community, Gun Lake Casino will require masks while indoors at our property.

Home Depot: We’ll require all associates, contractors and vendors to wear a mask while indoors at all U.S. Home Depot stores, distribution centers, office locations and customers’ homes or businesses, regardless of vaccination status. We’ll ask customers to wear masks while in our stores and continue to offer masks to those who don’t have one.

Kohl's: Kohl’s is currently requiring our store associates in counties with high risk of transmission, as identified by the CDC, to wear masks while in store. We also recommend that customers in high-risk counties wear masks while shopping. As always, we are following state and local mask mandates.

Lowe's: Lowe’s associates are required to wear masks indoors at all U.S. locations and while working in a customer’s home or business – regardless of vaccination status. Lowe’s will continue to abide by all state and local mask mandates. Stores will have signs encouraging customers to wear masks, and free masks will continue to be available for customers who request them.

Meijer: We ask all customers who are not fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine, to wear a mask while they shop at our stores and maintain social distancing. Subject to local, state and federal health and safety recommendations.

McDonald's: McDonald’s asks every customer entering our restaurants to wear a mask or face covering as a safety step based on the most recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Sam's Club: We will continue to follow the latest CDC guidance, which includes fully vaccinated people wearing masks in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high transmission, effective immediately.

Target: Target continues to recommend face coverings for unvaccinated team members and guests at all stores across the country. Based on the CDC’s updated guidance, we require face coverings for our team members and strongly recommend face coverings for all guests in areas with substantial or high risk of transmission, as defined by the CDC.

Walgreens: We continue to monitor and follow the latest guidance from the CDC and local and state health officials, and we encourage all customers, including those who are vaccinated, to wear face covers in our stores to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

Walmart: We will continue to follow the latest CDC guidance, which includes fully vaccinated people wearing masks in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high transmission, effective immediately.
