The Michigan State Police issued a statement Wednesday afternoon, a day after a deadly shooting in downtown Kalamazoo.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) requested MSP to coordinate the investigation after two of their officers engaged in gunfire with the suspect. The deceased suspect has been identified as Brandon Stacey, 31, a resident of Kalamazoo County. An autopsy was performed on Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Upon conclusion of the probe the investigation will be forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for an independent review. - Michigan State Police

Meanwhile, MLive is reporting Stacey was a former volunteer fireman for Parchment, and also was a former EMT with Life EMS Ambulance. He had been employed at Biomat USA for less than a year. The story also says he had financial problems, and had filed for bankruptcy.

The names of the two officers in the incident have not yet been released. The officer who was shot at, was taken to the hospital, and released. The second officer was not hurt.
