A Muskegon Gem Brings Back The VHS Rental Experience
There’s a store in Muskegon that has more than 10,000 VHS tapes for sale, which is one of the few VHS video stores in the entire state.
Static tape video was opened some years ago with the intention of only selling a small amount of VHS tapes, mainly for nostalgic reasons.

But as a report from MLive highlighted, after the COVID-19 pandemic began, the owner of the shop, Harrison Lange, started seeing VHS tapes fly off the shelf, which inspired him to start finding more VHS tapes to stock in his store, selling most of them for only one dollar.
Now that there is a lot of hype for VHS tapes again, he is selling more than ever and has a stock of over 10,000 VHS tapes in his store, as the article explains
As on-demand streaming took over in the past decade, video stores were seemingly on track to become relics of the past. But several stores in Michigan have tapped into a new demand for physical media. Static Tape Video, 5600 Harvey St. in Muskegon, has been selling VHS, DVDs and Blu-Rays since 2019. But VHS started flying off the shelf after the pandemic, and the store is now stocked with 10,000-plus tapes for sale.
As they continued, there are multiple stores like this in the earea, that look to capture the nostalgia of rentals from our youth:
Another shop, Bardertown Video, 2405 Porter St. SW Suite K in Wyoming, opened last year, selling and renting VHS and DVDs. It's aiming to recreate the nostalgia of a video rental store.
