PETA Wants To Change Groundhog Day… Here’s How
I think you'd agree that we've come a long way in the last 40 years in terms of how we treat animals. Common sense has prevailed and, yes, PETA (People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals) has taught us a few lessons over the years. In fact, when you look at all the good things they've done, you'll see that they are an organization with their heart in the right place. Unfortunately, we and the press tend to dwell on some of the ridiculous things; like this one.
According to an article on upnorthlive.com, In a letter to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is calling for Phil to be retired to an animal sanctuary and the groundhog replaced with an animatronic groundhog that uses technology to more accurately predict the weather. So a robot groundhog. Now, I have to admit that the whole Groundhog Day thing is kind of ridiculous and they are yanking the varmint out of his hole but I don't think it's cruel.
