Proposed Bill Would Outlaw Cell Phone Use by Kids Under 21
This may be another exampled of taking things too far. Or is it? You can drive a car at 16. Should the age to drive be raised to 21. You can fight and die for your country at 18. Should the age be 21? You can't drink or gamble till you're 21. Are those compatible with using a cell phone. And as long as we're on the subject you can't rent a car until you're 25? What's up with that?
An article on wlns.com tells us that Vermont is considering a bill to ban cell phone use for anyone under 21. According to the legislation, there are links between cellphone use by people under the age of 21 to a rise in driving fatalities, suicides, mass shootings and terrorism. The bill cites that cell phones are involved in 1.6 million automobile crashes each year, according to the United States Department of Transportation and the internet and social media, accessed primarily through cell phones, are used to radicalize and recruit terrorists, fascists and other extremists. Now before before we all get unwound here, it seems the guy who introduced the bill did so to make a point about gun legislation. So there's that.
