Take A Submarine Ride In The Great Lakes

We've seen the news about the submarine that has gone missing near the sunken wreck of the Titanic. This is a scary situation that is still unfolding. My thoughts and prayers are with those currently missing and unaccounted for. Here's the latest update.

The curious side of me begged the question, "are there subs in the Great Lakes?". I would think that there are since the Great Lakes are massive and have some incredible depths.

When I grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan I was always wondering what kind of shipwrecks, treasure and weird fish existed in the lake. I also thought it would be really cool to have a submarine to use for exploring the depths of Lake Michigan. While I cannot finance this type of operation, opportunities to explore the Great Lakes in a submarine do exist.

It's time to book a trip aboard Viking Cruise Lines. Their Viking Octanis will take you on a sweet trip through the Great Lakes. When you make it to Lake Huron, on the Canadian side, you can take a 35 minute submarine ride to explore the depths of the lake. You won't submerse yourself to depths of 500 feet, you will get to ride down to approximately 50 feet or more to see things that are we can't see with our naked eye while we are on shore.

The staff will give you a very thorough training before you take your ride into Lake Huron. Safety protocol and issues that may arrive will be covered in your saftety training. Although it seems crazy to climb inside a sardine can to go for a ride that you could be crushed at anytime, it excites me to give it a shot.
