We live in Michigan and we love living in Michigan.  It's been over 30 years for us making this place where we've spent most of our lives.  Honestly, I think we would be happy wherever we lived because we have each other but why not have it be someplace that makes us the happiest.

Really!  There is no place we'd rather be.  We're close to our Wisconsin roots, we always want to be Midwesterners and of all the Midwestern states, Michigan has the most going for it.  I could go down the list but I won't.  Well... just  a little.

Whenever somebody asks me why we love living in Michigan I start with no matter where you are you're no more that 6 miles from a lake and no more than 85 miles from a Great Lake.  We have the most freshwater coastline in the United States.  The 2nd most shoreline period behind Alaska.  Michigan is the 3rd most golfing state behind Florida and California.  These are a few of my favorite things to say.

Of course, I also include things we don't have like hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires or mudslides to name a few.  We take these negative things for granted but we also take some of the other best things for granted as well.

Over the years we've chronicled some of the best Michigan has to offer from our point of view and have taken great delight in what the rest of the country and the world have said were the best from their point of view.  Mackinac Island and Sleeping Bear Dunes are often on the "best of" lists.

And now another gem has made one of those lists.  The Travel Gurus at msn.com put together the 50 Most Beautiful Places in America and Pictured Rock National Lakeshore finds itself prominently on the list.  With all we have within driving distance, why would we go anywhere else this Summer?
