Three Rivers Schools Closed Thursday Due to Shooting Threat Online

Students who attend Three Rivers Community Schools will not be in class on Thursday, after a threat was seen on a social media platform by another student.

The announcement went out late Wednesday evening from the school's official facebook account, and parents were notified via text messages and phone calls that the schools would be closed. Parents, students, and residents are asked to avoid any school property as officials investigate further.

The threat was first seen on another facebook group called "Nosey Asses of St. Joseph County," which is a private group on the social media platform. However, a screenshot of the post was shared on a public facebook page, "Three Rivers, Michigan Area Information."

The threat is a screenshot from another social media app, Snapchat, from an account that has not been identified publicly. It reads, "All the ppl who go to tr middle and high school that place is getting lit up tmr." The threat is followed with a water gun emoji - since a real gun emoji has been banned on most devices - and a strong arm emoji.

The threat was reported quickly to authorities, who notified the school, who quickly announced that classes would be canceled for Sept. 12th across the district.

Authorities are currently investigating where the threat came from, and how credible it might be. It's unclear if classes will resume on Friday.

This threat comes just three days after Byron Township was also closed due to a threat made against the school district in Kent County.

Both threats come less than a week after a deadly school shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia where two students, and two teachers lost their lives.
