One of the Detroit Tigers all time greats is set to have an intersection in Detroit renamed in his honor.

According to the Detroit News, the Detroit City Council has voted to rename an intersection in honor of Willie Horton. A resolution was passed by the council this week.

The intersection of West Canfield Avenue and John C. Lodge Service Drive will be named for the former Tigers outfielder and designated hitter.

Willie Horton played 15 years in Detroit and is one of the main stars of the Tigers 1968 world championship team.

He is still involved with the team as a special assistant to general manager Al Avila.

Each year October 18th, which is Willie's birthday, is celebrated as Willie Horton day. The day honors the humanitarian work he has done in Detroit and through out the State of Michigan.
