In a move that many had expected, The Detroit Red Wings have recently named their new Alternate Captain to take over from Pavel Datsyuk.

According to M-Live,  Forward Justin Abdelkader will now wear the "A" that was once worn by Pavel Datsyuk.  He now joins Henrik Zetterberg, who is the Team Captain and Niklas Kronwall, who is the other Alternate Captain on the Red Wings.

This move was made just as Justin returns to the team from playing in the World Cup of Hockey for the USA.

This will be Justin's eighth season with The Red Wings and a great honor for his career.
