Dukes of Hazzard Star Passes Away

James Best, who will always be known as Sheriff Rosco  P. Coltrane on "The Dukes of Hazzard,"  died yesterday at the age of 88.  For me, one of my favorite shows as a kid.

I remember that my brother and I would watch the show every week.  The highlight of the show for us, other than the car chases, was always watching Rosco and Boss Hog try to outsmart the Dukes. The way those two played off each other made the show for me.  Every once in a while, I'll catch a rerun of the show on cable and it still brings a smile to my face, just like the first time I watched it.

I only really know James Best from "The Dukes", but he had a long, prolific film and TV career.  I did get a chance to see him in a movie called Rolling Thunder from 1977.  He plays an outlaw called "The Texan" that is a totally opposite character from Rosco.   It was interesting to see him that way as I was so used to his work as Rosco.

Thanks for giving us a classic television character that will never be forgotten.
