We talked about how there are so many people who are leaving the Midwest, that it's starting to show proof in large numbers. Much like the report that showed that 24/7 Wall Street found that in 2022, 11,714 people moved from Michigan to California. So there are clearly greener pastures for some, even if it is in California.

What about Ohio though? You gotta imagine people are trying to get out of there, but maybe they're waiting for the solar eclipse to pass before leaving. It turns out that Ohio was named as one of the Top 15 states whose population is drastically declining.

As Insider Monkey pointed out, things are a little rough for the Midwest:

In order to compile a list of the 15 declining states in the US, we sourced data from the US Census Bureau. The 2022 National and State Population Estimates reveal the population change in states between 2021 and 2022 which we have used as our metric. Hence, we have ranked the 15 declining states in the US in descending order of their change in population between 2021 and 2022, to depict population declines.

15. Ohio
Percentage Change in Population (2021-2022): -0.1%
Between July 2021 and July 2022, the population in Ohio declined by 0.1%. The state also recorded the 10th largest numeric decline of 8,284 among all other US states. Hence, Ohio ranks among the 15 fastest-declining states in the US.

Things aren't well for Illinois either, who lost .8% of their population in 2022 themselves. You can check out who else made the list for the Top 5 declining states, in terms of population, here.
