The Civic just announced the lineup for their 89th season, and it all kicks off with Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein." Everything you love from the movie is hilariously captured on stage with great music, including (of course) Puttin' on the Ritz. That's a STRONG open, right? So, how do you top a show-stopper like that... with a musical for the whole family just in time for the holidays; "The Little Mermaid." Someone tell Lori Moore. We NEED her as Ursula. Closing out the season will be none other than Billy Elliot, which is a show close to my heart, not only because of the sweet story, but because Jamie Bell is super hot in TURN.

This is why they don't let me make the actual, official season announcements.

Okay... so, peppered within the season are some other fantastic shows like, Rock of Ages, Calendar Girls, Baskerville, and the Scottish play, Macbeth, among others.  And, of course, great shows for the kids to be a part of; Suessical, Jr., and Harriet the Spy. They're also bringing Shakespeare back to the Civic Youth Theatre with A Midsummer Night's Dream. Finally a theater company is doing A Midsummer Night's Dream and I can't audition for it. I'd be the perfect Hermia. Come on. Short. Brunette. Sigh. (I might just slip in to auditions unnoticed...)

All in all, this is going to be a GREAT season with something for everyone. Rockers, make sure you stay tuned for dates for Rock of Ages; with the talent in out town, you are NOT going to want to miss that show.

Congratulations, Civic, on 88 fantastic seasons, and cheers to your 89th!
