About 100 employees at a Battle Creek cereal plant will lost their jobs after deep cuts by the new owner.  Nine months after buying the former Ralston plant on McCamly Street, TreeHouse Foods is slashing the workforce by more than 60%.   The facility produces ready-to-eat cereal that is primarily sold in North America.

About 100 of the current 160 employees will be losing their jobs according to a news release from the company. The cuts will take place over a 15-month period beginning in January of next year.  The Battle Creek Enquirer reported last February that Illinois-based TreeHouse Foods  acquired the Battle Creek plant and 31 other facilities from ConAgra Foods.

The Wall Street Journal reports that cuts come as the company feels the weight of that acquisition.

TreeHouse said costs linked to the integration of the private-label business it acquired from ConAgra weighed on its results for the quarter. TreeHouse bought the business for about $2.7 billion in a bet that comes amid stiff competition for shelf space and sluggish growth for conventional packaged foods.

The company also plans to shut down its Delta facility in British Columbia.
