Battle Creek College Ranks Second Best Community College In Michigan

Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek has been recognized as one of the best community colleges in the country.

Community colleges are great for their communities, especially when you live in Southwest Michigan, and we have things like the Kalamazoo Promise. But the promise seems to overshadow another great program in Southwest Michigan, which is the Bearcat Advantage, which gives eligible graduates up to 100% of the college tuition covered by the Bearcat Advantage scholarship.

This is dedicated to Battle Creek public schools and the school that very much embraces graduates of the Bearcat Advantage, Kellogg Community College, which has been recognized not only as the 17th best community college in the entire country, but was also named number two in the state of Michigan, only behind Gogebic Community College in the far west Upper Peninsula.

Strangely, one of the most well-known community colleges in the state, Oakland Community College, ranked second to last in the state.

Wallet Hub recently released its findings:

During the 2025 to 2026 academic year, tuition and fees for full-time, in-state enrollment at a public two-year college averaged just $4,150 per year. Compare that to $11,950 at a public four-year institution and $45,000 at a four-year private school.

They also explained how they determined how they narrowed their findings down.

WalletHub compared more than 610 community colleges across 18 key indicators of cost and quality. Our data set ranges from the cost of in-state tuition and fees to the student-faculty ratio and graduation rate.
