Michigan Families Trade Neighborhood Trick-or-treating For Safer Daytime Trunk-or-treat Events
Are trunk-or-treat events ruining the Halloween trick-or-treat tradition in Michigan? This is a topic of conversation that’s come up quite a lot, and I feel it needs to be looked into.
Growing up, every Halloween night when it was just starting to get dark, we would all hit the streets and go throughout the neighborhood to get as much candy as possible. Nowadays, there are so many trunk-or-treat events where people will, in lieu of going trick-or-treating, decorate the trunks of their cars during the day and encourage kids to dress up and visit each trunk to get candy.

Personally, I think these ideas are terrible and completely ruined the entire spirit of Halloween.
The entire point was that we are supposed to dress up in spooky, creepy, gross, or fun costumes and run throughout the neighborhood in the dark to collect candy from strangers.
I know times have changed over the years, but trick-or-treating is a tradition that I feel people are trying to do away with for the false sense of security.
There’s never been any major tragedy that’s happened from kids running around their neighborhoods in the dark collecting as much candy as possible, so why is Michigan flooded with these trunk-or-treat events?

I feel there’s nothing special or exciting about these events, and it takes away from the experience that we all grew up having. It was the one night out of the year. The parents were a little less lenient on us, and we could eat a little extra sugary candy that we normally couldn't. Do you think trunk-or-treat events are ruining the spirit of trick-or-treating?
