I never thought about it but maybe our Michigan drivers license is out of date in relation to the world we now live in.  Apparently, the folks at the Secretary of State think so and have incorporated what is called the REAL ID.

According to our friends at WZZM 13, this is not a new idea.  In fact, this is something that was enacted right after September 11, 2001 to make it easier to for airport security.  It seems those hoping to do harm like hijackers were able to get fake IDs and the recommendation was for all U.S. citizens was to get "enhanced" identification.  Now, this is not a mandatory policy but when you think about it this is certainly what we're headed for in the near future.  The REAL ID is like a drivers license and passport rolled into one and can be used for travel outside the continental United States but not international.  Get the rest of the story by clicking HERE.
