Early this afternoon I received a phone call from a 202 area code number.  Usually when I don't know a number, especially one with a strange area code, I don't answer and let it go to voice mail.  First time my phone rang, I did not receive a voice mail, however, almost immediately after I hung up on them, they called back and did leave a voice mail.  A foreign gentleman claiming to be Agent Richard Lewis from the Internal Revenue Service left me a message, calling me by name, claiming that he was from their Criminal Investigation department and I had to call them back immediately.  I immediately called my old man, who's a CPA and knows a thing or two about the IRS, and he told me that the IRS does not call people.  If the IRS really needs to get a hold of you, they'll contact you via mail.

After Googling the number that called me, I found out that I wasn't the only person getting these phone calls.  Apparently scammers are calling people claiming to be from the IRS and they are trying to get money out of you.  I assume they pull the whole, "I'm calling from the Internal Revenue Service's Criminal Investigation Department and if you give me money we can erase this whole thing" scam.

Now, this is the best part; later in the afternoon I got another phone call from the same number and this time I answered.  Agent Richard Lewis was on the line saying that I was under investigation, but every time I asked him what I was under investigation for, he just kept repeating that he was from the IRS.  So I called this piece of street trash out on his bull sh*t and told him "I know you're a fraud and this is a phony call" and the schmuck hung up!

So, protect yourself and others.  If you get a phone call from 202-241-1489, and an Indian man claims to be from the Internal Revenue Service's Criminal Investigation department, call him on his BS and you'll most likely never hear from him and his people again.

You know, since this scumbag called me, maybe I'll return the favor, over the airwaves of course.
