As we get ready for the holiday season, it’s almost time to start shopping for Christmas and the holidays, and with that will be strolls through many different downtowns that will be adorned with Christmas lights throughout the holiday season.

There are so many great Christmas light shows throughout the state but one seems to stand out above, the rest of them and that is the Big Bright Light Show in Downtown Rochester on the east side of the state.

Illuminating the downtown area with over 1.5 million points of light between November 25, 2024, and January 19, 2025, the official kickoff of the holiday season will soon commence with their annual Lagniappe, where they will flick the switch and turn the lights on for the first time of the season.
Every year, thousands of people head downtown for the event, which the city looks forward to every year, as they detail on their website, and explain the meaning behind the oddly named light show:

Join us on Monday, November 25th, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm, to celebrate Lagniappe’s 51st anniversary, where "a little something extra" awaits all our valued patrons. Lagniappe, a Creole word for "a little something extra," embodies the spirit of giving and appreciation. It's the perfect way for the merchants of Downtown Rochester to express their gratitude to the community for their support throughout the year.

Just as a precaution if you plan on going for the opening event, Main Street will be closed from Second St. to University Drive from 5:30 to 9:30. Below you can get a sneak peak of what awaits you.
