This May Be The Quirkiest Business Strip In Michigan
While searching for businesses in Southwest Michigan that have the best Grilled Cheese sandwiches I found a strip of buildings in downtown Lawton that immediately caught my eye. I've never seen anything like the string of buildings that are home to Big T's Tavern.
The buildings have a very Western/Victorian feel to them, however, one thing about them makes them stand out from the rest of the town. The buildings are painted with the brightest marigolds, turquoise, green, pink, and other bright colors I've ever seen on a building. Does anyone know why or when they painted these buildings this way? If you've never seen them before, check out the buildings below:
Pure Michigan highlighted this restaurant and the history behind it:
The Big T is a family restaurant with an open and friendly atmosphere. People drive from a 100 miles to eat here. A large and varied menu, from appetizers to dinners. There are five store fronts in a Victorian Theme. The dining rooms vary in decor from totally masculine to Victorian. We are a large restaurant serving a diverse food and beer menu in a small town with the friendliness of hometown folk.
This may be the coolest, most colorful, and brightest strip of businesses in the entire state. The concept of Big T's has evolved over the years, as the business has changed hands a few times, but the name has always remained the same. The current owners wanted to honor the original ones, and the tavern continues to put out quality food and service.
