Oh, the excitement of Winter Break! Two weeks of holiday leftovers, and presents, and family visits, and fighting, and giving time-outs, and tears... WOW! That escalated quickly. Any parent knows how quickly the thrill of a break can lead to cabin fever. So, how do you combat climbing the walls and bring back some holly jolly spirit to this winter break?

Why not take a break for art? There are so many ceramic figurines to choose from to glaze in any way you want. Best part? The paint stays there. Plus, what a great way to make last minute gifts, or post-Christmas gifts, for that side of the family you see after the holiday. Parents, you might wan to make yourself one of these to get through the break.

A bit of a drive for some folks, but well worth it when you realize your kids could play arcade games all day for just $5 each. A fun alternative to the couch and video games, get those kids on their feet playing classic pinball games, skeeball, and more!

Teacher reading out to students in the library

Encouraging reading at an early age, and reading for the fun of it, leads to better vocabulary and more empathy. Borrow books, movies, soundtracks, and so much more. There's a world available to you, and all it takes is a library card.

  • Winter Break Camps

Several area organizations offer winter break camps, like The Kalamazoo Nature Center and the Air Zoo. If you can't commit to the full camp, why not check out your local craft or hobby store, like Michaels, to see if they have a daily craft? Who knows what this can inspire?
