Fountain Renovation Takes A Hit After Car Crash In Marshall
The city of Marshall recently beautified the heart of their downtown area by painting the fountain that resides in the middle of the roundabout leading into downtown. It wasn’t just painting, but a massive rehabilitation of the basin of the fountain.
That’s why it’s all the more devastating after a video arose of a car driving through the park, crashing into a bench, and crashing his car into the middle ring of the fountain.

In the video, which you can see below, the man seems a bit distraught, gets out of his car, tries to reverse, and appears to try to leave the scene of the crime before police show up and investigate the situation.
According to Yahoo, that's when things got very interesting:
The Marshall Police Department says officers saw signs that the driver, a 38-year-old man, was intoxicated. There were also guns in the car, police say. Investigators are awaiting toxicology tests, after which the county prosecutor will review the case for possible charges.
Someone commented that this area needs added protection to avoid situations like this:
Definitely underscores the need for a protective barrier around the perimeter of the circle. What if people were there in the park? Additionally, I have long thought that, at the very least, some type of flashing border should be added to the Yield signs to get driver attention.
This is a problem that Marshall does not need, but how do they avoid a situation like this again?
