Civic Theatre Teams with KPL to Create Program Archive
The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre turns 90 this season. 90. Just think of the history that place has seen; the talent that has graced their stages, the friendships that have been formed, and the memories that will never be forgotten. 90 years of laughter. 90 years of tears. 90 years of inspiring people of all ages and walks of life to join this community of singers, dancers, jesters, builders, tailors, and artists and share their talents with Kalamazoo. Finally, the Kalamazoo Public Library has teamed up with the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre to create an archive of this rich theatrical history.
Every program dating all the way back to the very beginning is available for search. The archives have been scanned and uploaded and can be searched by season, by name, or by sponsor. It's a fascinating look back at 90 years of drama, the creation of the Civic Youth Theatre, and how the the theatre changed from being one of many local, volunteer theatres in the area, to one of the most respected volunteer theatres in the nation. And thanks to the Kalamazoo Public Library, this rich history is a click away.
