When it comes to urban legends in Michigan, there is no shortage of creepy things people have claimed to have seen over the years. Everything from the Michigan Dog Man to the Melonheads of Allegan County, and my personal favorite, the Nain Rouge of Detroit, we’ve got plenty of urban legends to keep us busy.

One urban legend that still remains a mystery to this day is the giant skeletons that were unearthed in Coldwater, Michigan, back in 1906.

The Detroit Free Press originally put out a filler article in their November 15 edition, which recounts an incident where the alleged remains of a man and woman measuring 8 feet tall were found in a sandpit in Coldwater, Michigan.

You can read the original article here, which details the situation:

In a sandpit 4 miles north west of Coldwater, Clark Birch and LB Brooks have earth two perfect skeletons of human beings 8 feet tall. The two skeletons found today were buried facing each other. The bones represented beings who were at least 8 feet tall. Judging from appearances, they were men and woman. The bones were well preserved, the teeth, even being firmly fastened in the jaws. Among them were beads, ornaments, and odd-shaped pieces.

The article would go on to state that there were the opinions of some who believe that the materials they were buried with were made from the teeth of a mastodon and that these people were possibly 3000 years old.

There's no evidence whether these were giants or not, or just two very large natives who lived in the area. But the question also remains, nearly 120 years later, what did he do with the bones once he dug them out?
