According to a story in the Washington Post, a Macon County, Illinois official claims that if the state legalizes marijuana it may lead to the euthanasia of the K-9 unit trained at sniffing out the drug.  Apparently, they say the dogs will be no good and it would be to cruel to try and re-train them to NOT indicate pot when they are doing their thing.  In fact, the state of Colorado wrote into their legalization laws that the existing dogs must be retired.

Now, I don't speak for our law enforcement but wouldn't that seem to be an incredible waste of a good K-9?  These dogs are trained to do many other things like track and help apprehend suspects.  We know they are vital to the safety of their human partners and, frankly, they're not cheap to acquire and train as we found out recently when we partnered with Honor Credit Union to bring on Roseco the latest member of the K-9 team.  Get the rest of the story by clicking HERE.
