No one will hear the bell this year. The Polar Express will not be running in 2020- the first time in 16 years the North Pole Express will stay in the station.

Michigan's Steam Railroading Institute brings joy to kids of all ages every year with Fall color tours and its famous Polar Express excursion. Amid Coronavirus concerns and the risks of confining large groups of people in an enclosed space, the trains will remain in the depot for the rest of 2020.

This is the first time in 16 years that our historic North Pole Express will not be offered. Every year, thousands of guests come to Owosso to experience this nostalgic Christmas adventure and this announcement is disappointing...The Steam Railroading Institute continues to explore all options for safe, outdoor events onsite in Owosso and hopes to provide the public with a Pere Marquette Christmas experience.

Tickets for this magical journey go on sale each March and inevitably sell out as riders clamor to get a seat aboard the Pere Marquette 1225 train- the one Hollywood modeled the Polar Express after. The journey takes riders on an enchanting four-hour Christmas adventure, including a stop at the Village of Ashley Country Christmas.

Alas, it looks like only a Christmas miracle can save this beloved Michigan tradition. Do you believe?
