New York City. 1930-something-something. Starry-eyed Bobby Child has hopes and dreams of dancing on a Broadway stage.  His mother, on the other hand, wants him to get his head out of the clouds, grow up, settle down, and become a banker.  She tasks him with traveling to a remote town in Nevada to close a struggling theater, but once there, he falls in love with rough-around-the-edges Polly Baker, and decides to save the theater and the town with the help of his showgirl friends and some well-meaning cowboys.  Mix in a case of mistaken identity, a stuck-up ex-fiance, a rival businessman, and two random English tourists, and you have the ingredients for the Civic Theater's 2014-2015 season-ending musical, Crazy for You.

Admittedly, Crazy for You has always been one of my favorite musicals.  Billed as "The New Gershwin Musical Comedy," this early 90s musical tips it's hat in a reverent homage to the classics of The Great White Way.  It's got everything!  Singing!  Dancing!  Love!  Spectacle!  Exclamation points!  The cast of this Ben Zylman directed Civic production delivers.  If you like your entertainment spoon fed to you, don't miss this show.  The dances are tight, most notably the Act I closing kickline (which consists of nearly the entire cast shoulder-to-shoulder from wing-to-wing), Ken Ludwig's comedic script is delivered with impeccable timing (I'm looking at you, Tia L. Pinson), and it's all wrapped in a big, beautiful bow of colorful costumes and Broadway-level sets.

The show runs through May 16 (including a matinee on Mother's Day!), and seats are going fast. Call the Civic box office at 343.1313, or click here to order online!
