The holiday musical has become a Civic tradition shared with the community and delighting young and old audiences alike. This year will be no exception! A ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins will fly into the Civic beginning November 20th . Featuring an irresistible story, eye-popping sets and costumes, breathtaking dance numbers and beloved songs such as Chim Chim Cher-ee, A Spoonful of Sugar, Feed the Birds and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, this is sure to be a “Jolly Holiday” with Mary.

But one of the remarkable things about Mary Poppins is the story isn’t really about Mary Poppins. Mary Poppins is really about the Banks family. When the curtain goes up the Banks family is completely dysfunctional. George Banks is only focused on work, living his life as society expects and having his house orderly and precise. Winnifred is mostly concerned with George’s approval and being the wife he expects her to be. Jane and Michael drive all the nannies crazy because they are looking for someone who cares for them and takes an interest in them. Mary comes in and teaches the Banks family important lessons in caring for others, family being important, and following your dreams.

Mary Poppins plays in the Civic Auditorium, 329 S. Park St. on November 20, 21, 27, 28 and December 3,4, and 5 at 7:30 pm and Sundays, November 22, 29 and December 6 at 2:00 pm.

Tickets are available through the Civic Box Office at 269-343-1313 or online at www.kazoocivic.com.
