Detroit Red Wings Move Forward Athanasiou Before Trade Deadline
As the trade deadline approaches, the Red Wings make a move as they send Forward Andreas Athanasiou to the Edmonton Oilers.
According to the story from M-Live, Athanasiou and prospect Ryan Kuffner go to Edmonton for a pair of 2nd round picks and center Sam Gagner.
Speed and finishing ability made Athanasiou a player to watch especially after his 30 goal season last year.
This year has been different story as he has a league worst -45 plus minus rating. He has been criticized for his lack of competitiveness and commitment to defense.
He is set to be a restricted free agent after the season. Athanasiou should help an Oilers team that is in the mix for the top teams in the western conference.
The trade now gives the Red Wings 10 picks in the upcoming draft which will include a top five first round pick and 3 second round picks.
