Detroit’s Rocket Mortgage Classic Moving To Late July In 2022

The PGA Tour's Rocket Mortgage Classic will move from this year's Fourth of July weekend to late July next year, the tour announced on Tuesday.

In year number 1 (2019), the tournament was played in late June.  But in years 2 & 3, it was moved to the 4th of July weekend, in between the U.S. Open and the British Open.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic, which is played at the Detroit Golf Club in the city of Detroit, was won this year by Australian Cam Davis (pictured above).  Americans Nate Lashley and Bryson DeChambeau won the tournament in 2019 & 2020, respectively.

The PGA Tour has not announced whether the Rocket Mortgage will return in 2023.  The original contract expires in 2022, Michigan had gone a decade without a PGA Tour event after the Buick Open went away in 2009.

The Classic will be played after the major tournaments next year, but just before the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin in August.  Tournament organizers hope for a better field, as a result, next year.
