Rockers including Axl Rose and Rod Stewart slammed U.S. President Donald Trump for his response to the latest round of California forest fires.

This year’s round of wildfires is reported to have been the worst on record, with nearly 7600 blazes having burnt nearly 7000 square kilometers of land. The three current fires, which triggered a state of emergency declaration, have caused at least 25 deaths, left hundreds missing, destroyed more than 6700 buildings and forced more than 250,000 people into evacuation.

Instead of sending messages of support to the victims and the firefighters engaged in trying to contain the disaster, Trump threatened to withdraw Federal aid, tweeting, “There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor. Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!”

His comment drew sharp criticism from across the spectrum, with many pointing out that Congress controls the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s budget in any case. Rose tweeted, “Um...actually...it’s a lack of federal funding that’s at the “root” of the purported forest mismanagement. Only a demented n’ truly pathetic individual would twist that around n’ use a tragedy to once again misrepresent facts for attempted public/political gain at other’s expense.”

Stewart said, “Mr. President, while people’s homes are burning, while lives are being lost & while firefighters are risking their lives, California needs words of support & encouragement, not threats or finger pointing & accusations. Where is Winston Churchill when you need him?”

Meanwhile, Nikki Sixx described the current fires as the worst he’d ever seen, saying, “I am finding the lack of continuous coverage on local #LosAngeles TV disturbing. Without our community texting and calling each other so many of us would be outta the loop.” Tommy Lee, his former Motley Crue bandmate, shared actor Michael Rapaport's angry (and NSFW) video response to Mr. Trump's statement.
