Back in 2003, Drive Safe Kalamazoo made a commitment to the students of Western Michigan University to ensure the safety of our community by providing, on nights of operation, free, nonjudgmental, safe rides home for Western Michigan University students and their guests. Yesterday via Facebook, they announced that they'll be shutting down the service after 14 years.

The reasoning given for the shutdown was for lack of volunteer support, insufficient amount of rides, needed technological updates, and an absence of members left to assist in the growth of DSK's future. In total, the company provided over 98,000 safe rides given to WMU students and their guests.

Although they are shutting down as of now, Drive Safe Kalamazoo didn't leave the door closed on the idea that they may one day return:

We really do hope to return in the near future. Until then, we will miss all of you. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about DSK, please feel free to message us and we will be sure to respond.

Thanks to DSK for all they have done keeping our community safe over the years. Hopefully one day they do indeed return.
