It feels crazy saying this halfway through September, but there are six counties in Michigan that got down into the 20° range overnight to start the week with a frost warning.

It’s a crazy thing to think about, considering we are still experiencing Summer weather as Fall is right around the corner, and although we have seen cooler days recently, getting into the 20° range of something that seems a little bit too soon.

But that’s what happens when you live in the Upper Peninsula.

Luckily for us in the Lower Peninsula, we haven’t had any frost advisories issued yet; however, in the Upper Peninsula, the National Weather Service issued a frost advisory for part of Michigan from Sunday night going into Monday morning for Baraga, Dickinson, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, and Ontonagon counties.

The National Weather Service in Marquette released a statement regarding the shocking frost advisory, describing what brought the frost:

Colder air and calm winds tonight will make frost possible for inland areas of upper Michigan. Most likely locations are the interior west, and frost advisories have been issued. Can’t rule out some frost in the east as well. If you have sensitive plants, make sure to bring them inside or cover them this evening.

Hopefully people listened, and we’re able to get prepared. Luckily for them, there’s no frost warning in the near future, as the lowest temperature it’s expected to get around Marquette is 48° overnight. But it’s definitely a sign of things to come as we head towards winter.
