A familiar name is coming back to the Detroit Red Wings.  Free Agent Center, Valtteri Filppula has signed a deal to play in Detroit.

According to WDIV in Detroit, Filppula has signed a two year deal to return to Hockeytown.

Filppula recently played in New York with the Islanders.   Filppula was with the Red Wings between 2005 and 2013 and helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 2008.  He eventually left as a free agent and signed in Tampa with the Lightning.

He was eventually traded by then Lightning GM, Steve Yzerman to the Flyers.  Filppula should help the rebuilding Red Wings as a veteran presence for the young forwards.

This is one of the many moves in the NHL as Monday, July 1st is NHL Free Agency day.
