Goodwill has announced it is opening a new location in Richland, but not everyone is excited about the news.

Goodwill Industries International once had a location in Richland, and it will be returning at 8860 N. 32nd St. in Richland, next to Tavern 32, as both a retail store and a donation site, according to a recent Facebook post from Kalamazoo Commercial Real Estate.

However, this announcement was met with a lot of criticism from one woman's Facebook page, which argues that the company does not have those they serve in mind on multiple levels:

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I thought thrift stores were supposed to help people. You know... struggling families, single parents, seniors on fixed incomes, people trying to put together an interview outfit, and folks just trying to survive this economy.

They claim places like Goodwill are too expensive for low-income families:

Even some of the actual church-run stores are raising their prices to a ridiculous amount, Salvation Army and Goodwill are by far the Worst. The real question is: why are donated items being priced so high in the first place?

As they continued, they made a point that there are other organizations and retailers in the area that they feel actually support the community.

Personally, I'd rather support local nonprofits that put money back into OUR community. Places like OHS Operation Heaven Sent, in Galesburg, that help struggling families, veterans, and cancer patients, and provide food assistance to people who truly need it. Those are the organizations I want my donations to support.

Regardless of the negative, Goodwill is currently hiring and looking for staff for the new location, and people can apply at Goodwillswmi.org.
