Governor's Office Releases Somber Video on Anniversary of Covid

Marking the one year anniversary of the first Covid cases in Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist commemorated the somber occasion, with Gilchrist saying he had personally lost 27 people to Covid 19. "Twenty seven extraordinary people who came into and changed my life."

Then, Whitmer is standing on the basketball court at the Breslin Center, her alma mater. She talks about the excitement of a full house, but points out a full house at the Breslin Center is 16,000; the number of Michigan who lost their lives to Covid in the past year.

At a press conference, Whitmer announced that from 8-9 pm. Wednesday night, a request to Michiganders to turn on their porch lights to light up the streets in memory of those lost to the coronavirus.

She also announced that to date, the state has administered over 2 million vaccines to Michiganders of all races making the state 10th nationwide.

Gilchrist when for the heartstrings in his portion of the video, mentioning the many people he lost, while Whitmer says "we're in the second half of the battle, optimistically mentioning various parts of the state and how we're all united. She finished by mentioning there are now three safe vaccines, and in a low key manner, suggest people get vaccinated.
