A copper mine that was built in 1918 and located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula will be the home to four concerts that will be held later this week.

I've been to a lot of concerts in my day but I can honestly say that I've never been to one that required me to wear a hard hat. Well, those that plan on attending Houghton's 'Music in the Mine' concert series will be required to do so.

Quincy Mine is considered an iconic local landmark that will host the performances that are going to place October 7-8. According to MLive, guests will enjoy performances of contemporary music that make creative use of the historic building — spreading out guest musicians and singers in an elaborate set-up that maximizes acoustics and creates a surround-sound effect.

Some of the performances will be candlelit which will really add to the ambience.

Hard hats will be given to all the guests that attend. It's also suggested that you dress warm because the mine is only 43 degrees.

Libby Meyer, director of MTU’s Music Composition Program:

Some concerts, you can watch a stream and kind of get it, but this is something where you’re really fully immersed in the music because you’re just sitting in it and surrounded by it. It’s bouncing off the walls. It has a seven-second delay and some sounds just reverb forever. This is an amazing space — the acoustics in there are incredible.

I really wish this was closer because I think it would be so cool to attend. Hopefully, this turns into something special and is a success so they do more of these down the road. It would be cool to see if they branch out into other music genres as well.

If you live in the area and would like to attend, tickets are only $15 for adults and $5 for students.
