The Detroit Red Wings have sent defenseman Mike Green (pictured) to the Edmonton Oilers for forward Kyle Brodziak and a conditional future draft choice.

The deal was finalized early Monday morning after the Wings 4-2 loss to the Calgary Flames.

Brodziak has missed the entire season due to an injury, and is likely to retire.  The Red Wings put him on long-term injured reserve after the trade was consummated.  The Wings will retain half of Green's remaining salary for this season.  Green will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

The NHL's trade deadline is Monday afternoon at 3pm.  The Wings have been rumored to be shopping defenseman Trevor Daley and forward Andreas Athanasiou.
