Battle Creek Teen Races Mini Wedges At 90 Mph, Proudly Rep His Roots

There is a 13-year-old Battle Creek kid who is chasing his dreams of racing professionally and has already conquered mini wedge races and has now upgraded to a champ car.

Jacob Holmes is your average kid who’s living an average passion for kids his age, as he spends his weekends in his champ car, which can reach up to 90 mph. The wild thing is this kid is in his rookie season, and he just placed 3rd in a race over the weekend, gaining his first podium appearance.

He was born in Holland, Michigan, and grew up in South Haven, and he and his family currently reside near Battle Creek, where he spends most of his time on the racetrack, spending time outdoors, exploring nature, and learning about anything that has an engine.

He says that racing has always been a part of who he is and that before he could even talk, he was obsessed with race cars. But one thing that sets him apart from other teenagers is his passion to get back to the community.

When he was only five years old, he helped organize a community truck meet with We Care in South Haven to collect toys and raise money for children during Christmas. At one point, he had also grown his hair almost down to his waist and, after cutting it, donated it through Wigs for Kids so he could help a young girl named Josephine.

He’s not only proud of his accomplishments in the community, but his family’s heritage as well, as he explained on his Facebook page:

If you've seen my race car, you may have noticed the Mexican American flag, my MMIP decals, and several sponsors who are active in Battle Creek's Latino community. While our tribal nation is located farther away, my family and I attend local powwows and cultural events whenever we can because staying connected to our Indigenous roots is something we cherish.

He is currently setting up a fundraiser at La Loma Supermercado at 1791 W. Columbia Ave. in Battle Creek on Sunday, September 6 from 3 PM to 7 PM, and all proceeds will go towards tires, equipment, racing gear, passes, travel, and more so he can continue chasing his dream
